The active substance in R&C
Shampoo, pyrethrins, effectively eliminates head, body, and
pubic lice. The lice are destroyed by absorbing the
chemical which attacks the lice nervous system. Humans are
not effected in this way. The piperonyl butoxide contained
in the treatment makes the pyrethrins more effective in
destroying lice. This combination of medicines is known as pediculicide.
This medication is available without prescription, however,
since individual conditions may vary, it is important to consult
a physician before using pediculicides. See below for more
information on cases that require careful attention.

may be absorbed through the skin, however, there is no evidence
of this causing any birth defects or other problems when used on
the skin.
3. Your are breast feeding. The medicine in R&C
Shampoo is absorbed through the skin. It is not known if
these medicines are able to pass through to the breast
milk. Any mother who is currently breast feeding or is
considering breast feeding while using this product should
